Welcome to Old School Pastry!
If you’ve found this site, you’ve been searching for an old recipe or the history behind it. Glad you’re here.
Old School Pastry is infrequently updated, but has lots of fun things to check out. This blog houses my collections of old recipes, histories I’ve found behind old favorites, and my sometimes-successful attempts at recreating forgotten masterpieces. It is my ‘historical’ section of Pastry Sampler and the Pastry Sampler blog. I have a collection of over 1,000 cookbooks and many are vintage of the best kind.
This is my wordpress version; all my old posts are still on blogger, and available here: http://oldschoolpastry.blogspot.com. All new posts will be found on this site. The thing of it is, blogspot.com has been the most reliable of all hosting sites, and I’ve been blogging in some fashion for a very long time – I love the adaptability of WordPress (any theme, any plugin) but keeping it all updated has been a pain, and when things go wrong they really go wrong. I changed to wordpress so I could have this site under my home site (pastrysampler.com) and it brings great control, but in 2020, that awful year of the pandemic, the original theme I was using actually broke the site and I had to start over from scratch. Like, I had to literally delete it from the server and start over. Luckily most of my posts could be found in the Wayback Machine of the Internet Archive, so thanks to the bots that often crawl the site.
Enjoy your stay here! Send me a note anytime with comments.
